Town of Exeter

In the 17th century, settlers who entered the area known as "Vacant Lands" created homesteads and farms. Later, villages grew in the lowlands where streams were located, providing a source of power for the mills and small factories. Grist mills, saw mills, stores, blacksmith shops, warp factories, flannel mills and cotton mills sprang up throughout the villages. Exterer is primarily a rural community.  The unique elegant and charming countryside consists of wooded hills, clear streams and lakes, and a multitude of wildlife. Exeter is also home to Yawgoo Valley Ski Area, Rhode Island's only ski slope and a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. Various old homes and farms can still be found in Exeter giving the town a quaintness all its own.

Exterior public school system features Exeter-West Greenwich Senior High School, Exeter-West Greenwich Jr. High School and three elementary schools.  Visit the Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District's website to view detailed information.
