City of Norwich

Norwich, known as "The Rose of New England," is a city in, and formerly county seat of New London County, CT. The community is blooming with major revitalization efforts, including the new 89,711 square foot Mercantile Exchange in Downtown Norwich, and recent designation of the Downtown as Connecticut's newest Main Street Community.

From its 19th century emergence as a retail and manufacturing center, Norwich has continued its role as a leader in southeastern Connecticut. With a multiethnic population and organized efforts to revitalize the downtown (Chelsea), Norwich is adapting to its new position as a service and tourist destination.

Several Norwich neighborhoods maintain independent identities and are recognized by official signs marking their boundaries. Neighborhoods of Norwich are Norwichtown, Bean Hill, Yantic, Taftville, Greeneville, Occum, East Great Plain, Thamesville, Laurel Hill and Chelsea (the original "downtown" area).

Norwich real estate consists of single family residences and condominiums.

Elementary and middle school residents are zoned to Norwich Public Schools. The district also operates Thames Academy, an alternative high school. The middle schools of Norwich are Teachers' Memorial Middle School and Kelly Middle School. Norwich is also home to the Integrated Day Charter School, an alternative to the area of public schools.

The Norwich Free Academy is the primary high school for children living in Norwich and several surrounding towns.
